Items relating to the life and death of Private Joseph Leo Roy Jr. in World War II. Contains: division newsletters, K.I.A. Certificate; eight (8) pages of photoprints of Paris during WWI (possible location of J.L. Roy Sr.'s duty tour?); approximately 25 photoprints of various sizes all relating to life of J.L. Roy Jr. and places where he visited, including one (1) 8 1/2' x 19" black & white panorama print of the 81st "Wildcat" infantry division, with J.L. Roy Jr. marked; newspaper clippings referring to J.L. Roy Jr. and/or events, etc. of which he was included (before and after death); letters from J.L. Roy Jr. to his parents and sister; book titled "Eighty-first Infantry Division -- The Wildcats," soft cover, illustrates leaders and soldiers, history and exploits of the Division; book titled "The Eighty-first Infantry Wildcat Division in World War II" by the 81st Wildcat Division Historical Committee, circa 1948, Infantry Journal Press, Washington, dedication to Joseph L. Roy and presented to his parents, hardcover; and one (1) Purple Heart, with case and board pins, awarded to Pvt. J. L. Roy, black case.

Joseph Leo Roy, Jr. lived in Portland, Oregon, and attended St. Francis & Holy Redeemer Parochial Schools and Central Catholic High School. He was the brother of Sister Mary Leonarda of the Holy Names. Roy served as an Artilleryman with the 81st "Wildcat" infantry division and died in action while in the Palau Islands in the Pacific.
